Monex Europe Holdings Limited, the European arm of Mexico-based Monex S.A.P.I. de C.V., has reported a loss before tax of £2.3 million for the year 2024. This marks a reduction from the £5.3 million loss recorded in 2023, despite an increase in net trading income, which climbed to £77.2 million from £73.3 million in the previous year.

The company attributed the continued losses to substantial, one-time expenses associated with a "structural reorganization and transformation program," which included significant investments in technology upgrades and business restructuring.

Administrative costs for MEHL rose to £76.3 million in 2024, up from £74.5 million the year prior. Mauricio Naranjo, Group CEO of the parent company, characterized 2024 as "a pivotal year of transformation for Monex Europe Holdings," highlighting "bold, deliberate investments in technology, product development, and structural reorganization to support our future ambitions."

These investments focused on foreign exchange risk management tools, payment systems, and digital infrastructure, targeting corporate and institutional clients managing international financial operations. Early in 2024, Monex also secured investment and payment licenses in Spain, expanding its regulatory permissions and enabling a broader range of financial products for European corporate clients.

Despite the current losses, JP Carriedo, Group Director of Monex Europe Holdings, expressed confidence in the company's strategic direction. "We're building for the future, and the strategy is already showing results," Carriedo stated, adding, "We've made real progress in reshaping our business, with technology at the centre of everything we do."

While the holding company reported a loss, its subsidiary, Monex Europe Limited, showed improved performance with net trading revenue rising to £22.5 million and a net profit after tax of £8.6 million.

Monex executives anticipate a return to profitability for the European entity in 2025, as these strategic technology investments begin to yield returns. The broader Monex group processed $274 billion in foreign exchange turnover and managed $15.3 billion in client assets globally in 2024.
