Moscow Exchange Reports Positive Trading Volumes in May 2021

591dfd6e3769b2288df3693bf28627f.jpeg​Moscow Exchange (MOEX) has posted its trading volumes for the month of May, showing a jump across all key segments, including foreign exchange (forex).

According to the press release, the total trading volumes across MOEX's markets grew by 22.5 percent to RUB 74.3 trln in May compared to the same period of 2020. Growth leaders were the Equity Market (+36.4%), Derivatives Market (+36.1%), Money Market (+22.9%), FX spot Market (+22.1%).

Total trading volume on the Equity Market in May 2021 increased by 36.4% to RUB 2,162.3 bln compared to last May's RUB 1,585.2 bln. Money Market turnover increased by 22.9% to RUB 34.1 trln compared to May 2020's RUB 27.7 trln. Turnover in precious metals (spot and swaps) rose by 8.1 times to reach RUB 21.2 bln, of which RUB 20.9 bln (4.6 t) was gold and RUB 0.11 bln (1.6 t) was silver.

Derivatives Market volumes increased by 36.1% to reach RUB 10.4 trln compared to last May's RUB 7.6 trln. Standardized OTC Derivatives Market volume grew 25.1 times and reached RUB 341.5 bln.

FX Market trading volume grew by 22.1% to RUB 25.7 trln compared to the same period of 2020, with spot trades amounting to RUB 6.3 trln and swap trades and forwards totaling RUB 19.4 trln.

Fazzaco recently reported that MOEX has provided opportunities to trade 20 more international stocks. Additionally, the exchange has startd trading in cash-settled futures contracts on an index tracking the US equity market​.
