OANDA and GAIN Capital Settle Long-Running Patent Lawsuit

OANDA Corporation and GAIN Capital Holdings have settled a patent infringement lawsuit filed in 2020. The case was formally dismissed with prejudice on Thursday in the New Jersey District Court.
According to a court stipulation filed on February 26, 2026, the parties have resolved all claims and counterclaims. Each company will bear its own legal costs and expenses.
The original complaint, initiated by OANDA in May 2020, alleged that GAIN Capital Holdings, Inc. and GAIN Capital Group, LLC infringed two U.S. patents. The patents, U.S. Patent No. '336 and U.S. Patent No. '311, relate to systems and methods for trading currencies over a computer network.
The described technology in both patents includes a system comprising a server front-end, database, transaction server, rate server, pricing engine, interest rate manager, trade manager, value at risk server, margin control manager, trading system monitor, and hedging engine.
