ODX to Launch Security Token Trading Platform START Next Month
Osaka Digital Exchange (ODX) will launch its digital securities trading platform and start Japan's first trading of digital securities on December 25 this year.
ODX received approval from the Financial Service Agency on the 16th of this month to operate the Securities Token Proprietary Trading System (ST PTS) in Japan, said SBI Holding in a recent announcement.
SBI stated in the announcement, "On this occasion, we also publicly announce that we have named our ST market 'START', as it is our firm belief that the more liquidity of STs the start of START will bring, the more funding opportunities there will be. We have named our market in the hope that the ST market will thrive more."
According to a document submitted to the Kanto Local Finance Bureau, Japanese real estate firm Ichigo Owners will become one of the first companies to issue tokenized securities with value of approximately JPY3 billion (about $20 million).
Its tokenized security, Ichigo Residence Token, is designed for investing in real estate businesses in Tokyo and is expected to be traded on the ODX platform from December 25, 2023. SBI Holdings will be responsible for the underwriting.
ODX is a digital stock exchange jointly established in 2021 by major Japanese financial institutions including SBI Holdings, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG), Nomura Holdings (NOMURA) and Daiwa Securities Group, aiming to establish a new PTS (proprietary trading system) for equities and the first Exchange for STOs (Security Token Offering) in Japan, as well as contributing to facilitating the capital market in Japan.
