The new high-security data centre will be built in Guian New Area and become a key component of the PBOC new financial infrastructure.
The PBOC (People’s Bank of China) has signed an investment agreement to build a new high-security data centre in the Guian New Area, a new nationally recognised urban area in Southwest China’s Guizhou province.
The data centre, as a key information infrastructure, is the nerve centre of economic and social operations, and the top priority of network security, said PBOC vice governor Fan Yifei at the signing ceremony.
The Guian New Area plans build itself into one of the largest big data clusters globally over the next few years as part of a push to develop new infrastructure to fuel economic growth.
According to a May report from China Daily, the Guian New Area plans to hub 4 million data centres with a fixed-asset investment of over CNY 40 billion (USD 5.6 billion) by 2025.
The New Area will seek to leverage new infrastructure to deeper digital transformation, intelligent upgrades, innovative development and high-quality economic development.
Already, data centres belonging to China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Huawei, Tencent, Apple, and Foxconn have settled in the Guian New Area, according to local reports.
The PBOC’s Data Center Project is a key component of its financial digital development strategy, and a key measure to implement the strategic deployment of new national financial infrastructure, the central bank said.
Besides the PBOC, the CSRC (China Securities Regulatory Commission and some financial institutions attended the signing ceremony.
