Plus500, a global multi-asset group, has announced a conditional agreement to acquire Mehta Equities Limited, an Indian financial services firm, for $20 million. This acquisition signifies Plus500's strategic entry into India's burgeoning futures trading market.

Mehta Equities, established in 1995 and regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), offers a range of financial services including broking, portfolio management, investment banking, and custodian services. The firm holds memberships with prominent Indian exchanges like the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

According to Plus500, the acquisition is driven by the vast potential of the Indian retail trading market, which accounts for over 75% of global transaction volumes, with over 150 billion contracts traded in 2024. "We are thrilled to announce this acquisition in India, which marks a significant milestone in our global expansion strategy," stated David Zruia, CEO of Plus500. He further added, "By combining Plus500’s cutting-edge technology with Mehta’s local presence and expertise, we aim to accelerate growth and unlock new opportunities in this dynamic and fast-growing market."

The current management team of Mehta Equities, including Rakesh Mehta, will remain in their positions post-acquisition. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals and will be funded from Plus500’s existing cash reserves of $890 million. Plus500 intends to leverage synergies between the Indian and US futures markets and expand its offerings to include Indian cash equities, options, and wealth management services.
