Polymarket Lands Bundesliga Deal, the Data Agreement Is Still Missing
Polymarket has secured Bundesliga branding rights in the United States, though the accompanying official data agreement remains unconfirmed. This missing element will directly affect the depth of markets available at the platform's launch. The prediction market platform announced the partnership on June 22, naming the Bundesliga as its official prediction market partner in the US.
Starting in August with the 2026-27 season kickoff, users will be able to trade event contracts based on match outcomes. The deal was brokered by Relevent, which has held Bundesliga commercial rights across 35 American markets since 2024. This marks Relevent's first sponsorship for the league within the US prediction market category.
Polymarket receives exclusive rights to use Bundesliga and club intellectual property in a listed prediction market format, effectively blocking competitors from partnering with the same league in this category. The platform stated, "We're honored to be named the Exclusive Prediction Market Partner of Bundesliga in the USA."
A significant outstanding question is data access. Sportradar remains the Bundesliga's official data partner for wagering, streaming, and statistics, holding exclusive distribution rights. Providing official league data to Polymarket would require a separate commercial agreement, which has not been announced. In contrast, Polymarket's Serie A partnership already includes an official data feed through Genius Sports.
A partnership built solely on brand rights differs fundamentally from one integrated with official data. Market depth—including the number of contracts listed, settlement speed, and accuracy in reflecting live match dynamics—depends directly on the underlying data feed.
The Bundesliga deal continues Polymarket's expansion across European and Latin American football. It joins LaLiga North America, Serie A USA, and LIGA MX in the platform's portfolio, alongside partnerships with MLB, NHL, UFC, MLS, and a content deal with OneFootball. Each grants exclusive US rights in the prediction market category.
Polymarket's main US competitor, Kalshi, has pursued a different strategy, building sports volume across a wider range of markets rather than securing exclusive football league deals. Pew Research data indicates roughly 80% of Kalshi's trading volume since July 2024 comes from sports, though it lacks a comparable football league portfolio.
Operating as a CFTC-regulated designated contract market, Polymarket offers leagues a clearer regulatory framework for partnership compared to traditional sportsbooks. The operational completeness of the Bundesliga partnership from day one will be signaled by whether a data agreement with Sportradar is finalized before the August season opener.
