Refinitiv’s Spot FX Volumes Reached the Lowest Point in 8 Months
Refinitiv, formerly part of Thomson Reuters' Financial and Risk division, recently disclosed that the average daily currency trading volumes on its main FX trading services were $424 billion in August. This marked the lowest figure in the past three months, with volumes dropping by 3% compared to July 2023. However, it was still 2.7% higher compared to August 2022, showing a year-over-year increase.
Spot FX volumes at Refinitiv, which is partially owned by Thomson Reuters, totaled $88 billion in August, a 10% decline from July but better than August 2022.
The decrease in trading activity extended to other transaction types, including forwards, swaps, options, and non-deliverable forwards (NDFs), which averaged $336 billion daily, down from $338 billion in the previous month.
This trend aligns with the broader market as many major trading platforms experienced a drop in volumes after a strong start to the year.
