Revolut Urges Meta to Compensate Scam Victims as Fraud Risks Persist

Revolut is urging Meta to take greater responsibility in combating online fraud by compensating users who fall victim to scams on its social media platforms, according to a report from CNBC. This call to action comes in the wake of Meta's recent data-sharing partnership with UK banks, including NatWest and Metro Bank, aimed at reducing online fraud by providing critical information to help prevent scams.
While Revolut acknowledges the value of this partnership, the fintech company believes that it falls short of addressing the global scale of fraud. With scams often originating on social media platforms like Meta's Facebook and Instagram, Revolut insists that tech companies must share more of the responsibility.
As Fazzaco previously discussed, the UK has recently enacted new payment regulations that require banks and payment providers to compensate victims of authorized push payment fraud, where scammers trick victims into transferring money. However, Revolut argues that financial institutions alone should not bear the entire burden.
"The current regulations are an important step forward, but social media platforms where many of these scams occur need to contribute to the compensation process," a Revolut spokesperson said, echoing growing frustrations in the financial sector.
