Robinhood Markets, Inc. has moved to broaden its international presence by signing agreements to acquire PT Buana Capital Sekuritas, a licensed Indonesian brokerage, and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, an authorised digital financial asset trader. The planned acquisitions mark the company’s formal entry into Indonesia—its first major step into Southeast Asia—and represent a significant milestone in Robinhood’s global growth strategy. Both firms already operate under local regulatory frameworks, giving Robinhood a compliant foundation as it prepares to engage one of the region’s most active retail investor markets.

Indonesia has rapidly developed into a key trading hub, supported by a young, mobile-native population and growing participation in both traditional capital markets and digital assets. The country counts more than 19 million capital-market investors and 17 million crypto investors, a pace of adoption that surpasses many mature markets.

Commenting on the expansion, Patrick Chan, Head of Asia at Robinhood, said: "Indonesia represents a fast-growing market for trading, making it an exciting place to further Robinhood's mission to democratize finance for all." His remarks highlight the company’s long-term aim to introduce its simplified, user-friendly, and low-cost investing experience to one of the world’s largest emerging retail investor bases.

The acquisition of PT Buana Capital Sekuritas provides Robinhood with an immediate on-the-ground brokerage operation. The entity will continue offering Indonesian financial products to its current clients throughout the transition, ensuring continuity while Robinhood works to develop infrastructure for future Robinhood-branded services. Leveraging existing operations is expected to reduce entry barriers and align the company with local compliance requirements.

Pieter Tanuri, the majority owner of both firms, will stay on as a strategic advisor. His continued involvement is intended to support operational integration, regulatory alignment, and local market understanding, underscoring a partnership-driven approach rather than a purely transactional acquisition.

Robinhood expects both deals to close in the first half of 2026. During the transition period, Buana Capital will maintain normal operations to avoid service disruptions while Robinhood prepares its broader integration and product roadmap.
