Robinhood Markets has introduced pro and college football prediction markets within its app, allowing customers to trade on game outcomes through its derivatives unit. The offering, available via a CFTC-regulated exchange, adds to the company's expanding portfolio of event-based contracts.

The move comes as Robinhood seeks to deepen its footprint in prediction markets, a space it entered late last year. More than two billion contracts have been traded on the platform to date, though past ventures into sports such as the Super Bowl and March Madness were quickly withdrawn.

"Football is far and away the most popular sport in America," said JB Mackenzie, Robinhood's Vice President and General Manager of Futures and International. "Adding pro and college football to our prediction markets hub is a no-brainer for us as we aim to make Robinhood a one-stop shop for all your investing and trading needs."

The product rollout begins with contracts covering the opening two weeks of the NFL and college football seasons, with additional matchups to follow weekly. Contracts can be traded daily from early morning until late night, with buyers and sellers setting prices in real time.

While the contracts are structured differently from traditional sports betting, their arrival has drawn attention given that US sports wagering is typically governed by state regulators. Robinhood maintains that prediction markets sit at the intersection of trading, news, and culture, and are a natural extension of its broader platform ambitions.
