Robinhood has unveiled plans for a social trading network that will let users share live positions and verified performance metrics. The new feature, Robinhood Social, is set to launch in early 2024 with an invitation-only rollout to select U.S. customers.

The company made the announcement at its annual HOOD Summit in Las Vegas, where it also presented a range of new tools and services, including AI-powered analytics and expanded futures trading. The developments highlight Robinhood's effort to move beyond its origins as a simple trading app and into what Chief Executive Vlad Tenev described as a "financial superapp."

"Robinhood is no longer just where you trade," Tenev told attendees, framing the initiative as part of a broader shift to keep pace with active traders who often generate more revenue through higher-frequency activity.

Robinhood Social will differ from online communities like Reddit's WallStreetBets by requiring proof of trades. When a user posts, their positions will update automatically as market prices change, ensuring that profit-and-loss statements and performance histories reflect actual account activity. The company said this design aims to improve authenticity and curb the spread of manipulated screenshots or fabricated results.

Abhishek Fatehpuria, Robinhood's Vice President of Product Management, said the move builds on a long-standing vision. "We always thought it was something that we wanted to get into more of, especially with social and investing becoming more and more tied together," he explained.

Public figures, including hedge fund managers and politicians, will also have profiles on the platform. These will be populated through regulatory filings, even if those individuals do not use Robinhood directly.

The social launch comes alongside Robinhood Cortex, an AI system built into the company's browser-based Legend platform. Cortex allows users to request custom technical indicators or market scanners in plain English, eliminating the need for coding. Legend has also been expanded to include futures trading, covering more than 40 CME Group products such as the S&P 500, oil, Bitcoin, and gold.

"With futures on Legend, you can trade directly on any chart or widget quickly and confidently as soon as you spot a trend," the company said in a statement. Users can also trade via a ladder interface, a popular tool among professional traders.

Robinhood's push into futures and social features reflects a broader strategy to compete with established firms like Interactive Brokers and TD Ameritrade. Unlike its rivals, Robinhood emphasizes ease of use and integration across asset classes, allowing customers to manage stocks, options, crypto, futures, and prediction markets from one platform.

The broker continues to expand its offerings. It recently added tokenized stocks and broadened its prediction markets to cover U.S. football games. Additional features, including short selling and overnight index option trading, are expected soon.

Robinhood Social will not require extra fees. Instead, the company expects to fund it through existing Gold memberships — which cost $5 monthly or $50 annually — and through higher trading activity. The broader release timeline remains to be confirmed following the invite-only rollout.
