Sberbank Asset Management Expands Offering with ESG ETF
Sberbank Asset Management, one of Russia's biggest asset management companies, a subsidiary of Sberbank, has expanded its offering with ESG ETF Sber — Responsible Investment (BPIF RFI Sber — Otvetstvennye Investitsii), giving responsible investors a new way to speculate on volatility in global threats as climate change, environmental pollution and social inequality.
The new ETF was innovated by Sberbank Asset Management, bringing investors new opportunities to trade stocks of companies that are included in the MOEX – RSPP Sustainability Vector Total Return Index, which is expressed by the prices of shares of sustainable and social -responsible companies such as NOVATEK, Polyus, Tatneft, and TMK.
Acting as the fund’s market maker, Sberbank CIB will maintain the liquidity of the fund’s shares that are available via Sberbank Investor and with any broker that has access to MOEX trading.
“The shock that the world has experienced this year made more people realize the need to fight against such global threats as climate change, environmental pollution, social inequality, including by supporting companies that meet ESG principles. In 2020, private investors’ injections in ESG funds have reached their peak across the world. In August, the value of the assets of such funds exceeded USD 100 bln. In eight months of this year, ESG funds welcomed three times as much investment than last year. Sberbank sees a growing interest in such investments among its customers, constantly expanding its line of ESG products and instruments,”said Alexander Vedyakhin, first Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, Sberbank.
An exchange traded fund (ETF) is a type of security that involves a collection of securities—such as stocks—that often tracks an underlying index, although they can invest in any number of industry sectors or use various strategies.
Sberbank Asset Management embarked on the journey of trading ETF on MOEX in 2018.
