SEBI Extends Trading Suspension of 7 Agri-Derivatives for One More Year

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has extended a trading suspension for seven agricultural products for an additional year to December 2023.
The suspension of trading in non-basmati rice, wheat, chana (chickpea), mustard seeds, soybean, crude palm oil, and moong first took effect in December 2021 and was due to expire on 20 December 2022.
The move was a response to rising food inflation and aimed at addressing market distortions caused by speculators impacting small farmers, traders, and consumers.
In the new directions issued to exchanges operating in the commodities derivatives segment, SEBI said the suspension of trading is being extended for an additional year until 20 December 2023.
