SEC Appoints Paul Munter as Acting Chief Accountant
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently announced that it has appointed Paul Munter as its Acting Chief Accountant, replacing Sagar Teotia who will depart in February.
Teotia has been with the organization since 2017 and spent nearly fours years there and rode through the ranks with the regulator, culminating with the position of the Chief accountant.
Mr. Munter joined the SEC in 2019 and served as Deputy Chief Accountant since then, responsible for the international work in the agency's Office of the Chief Accountant.
On his new role, Mr. Munter will serve as the principal advisor to the commission on accounting and auditing matters, and help the commission discharge its oversight of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.
Prior to the new appointment, Mr. Munter has spent six years at University of Colorado Boulder. In addition, he had a long stint at KPMG, working as its Partner, Audit Quality and Professional Practice.
Allison Herren Lee, SEC's Acting Chair said:”I am grateful that Paul has agreed to lead the SEC's Office of the Chief Accountant. Paul brings decades of expertise to this new role, drawing on his significant experience as a regulator, academic, and accounting professional.”
