SEC Names Jed Hickman as EDGAR Business Office Director

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced the appointment of Jed Hickman as the Director of its EDGAR Business Office (EBO), effective immediately. Mr. Hickman stepped into the position of Acting Director of the office in April 2019.

The EDGAR Business Office, as an executive department, is responsible for overseeing the SEC's Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) system that offers free online access to public companies' financial disclosures. The EDGAR database also provides investors with filings by mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and variable annuities, to name a few. The EDGAR website on SEC.gov receives about two million electronic filings and handles over 24 million search requests per year.   

Welcoming the appointment, SEC Chief Operating Officer Kenneth Johnson said: "Jed has demonstrated strong leadership and deep knowledge of EDGAR and the EDGAR Business Office, and I look forward to his continuing contributions to the EDGAR program."

In addition to acting as the business owner of EDGAR, the EBO Director takes control of EBO's legal, technical, and operational units and provides oversight of everything including rulemaking analysis, governance, planning, budgeting, and customer support related to EDGAR.

Mr. Hickman has been with the SEC since January 2014. He was initially Branch Chief for the Office of Information Technology's Application Management unit, responsible for operating EDGAR system. Prior to being named as Acting Director of the office, he has been EBO's Deputy Director for several months from September 2018 to April 2019.

Prior to joining the SEC, Mr. Hickman has accumulated 16 years of experience in software development and the infrastructure engineering, operations, project and program management of information technologies in public and private industries.
