South Korea's FSC Chairman Addresses Financial Stability in Meeting with Banks

On August 20, Chairman Kim Byoung Hwan of the South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) convened a significant meeting with the heads of 19 major banks to discuss key issues impacting financial stability and the need for innovative strategies to foster sustainable growth.
This meeting marks the beginning of a series of discussions with various financial sectors aimed at tackling four critical risks facing the Korean economy: household debt, small business debt, real estate project finance debt, and the stability of the nonbanking sector.
During the meeting, Kim discussed the necessity for regulatory reforms to drive innovation within banks, which have traditionally relied on interest rate spreads and domestic operations. He announced that from January next year, a new responsibilities mapping system will be introduced to strengthen internal controls within banks.
