SpiderRock Expands to Belfast with £2M Engineering Hub
US-based fintech company SpiderRock Technology Solutions has announced plans to establish an engineering hub in Belfast, marking its first venture in Northern Ireland. The Chicago-headquartered firm is allocating £2 million for this initiative, which includes setting up operations at Pearl Assurance House on Donegall Square East.
The company specializes in cloud-based trading systems and low-latency market data solutions, catering to global financial clients such as hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, and bank trading desks. This move signifies SpiderRock's intent to enhance its operational capacity and extend its market reach beyond the US.
As part of the investment, SpiderRock is creating 20 positions, with average annual salaries of £55,000—nearly double the median wage in Northern Ireland’s private sector. Recruitment has progressed swiftly, with nearly half of the roles already filled.
SpiderRock CEO George Papa emphasized the strategic importance of the Belfast hub, stating, “Northern Ireland offers exceptional talent and strong academic partnerships, which are key to supporting our platform, improving coverage during non-US hours, and driving our expansion into Europe.”
The decision to establish a presence in Belfast was influenced by support from Invest NI and local universities, highlighting the region's growing appeal to international tech firms. The hybrid nature of the new roles is expected to widen accessibility for candidates across Northern Ireland.
Economy Minister Conor Murphy welcomed the investment, noting, “These new positions will contribute significantly to the local economy while further cementing Northern Ireland’s standing as a technology and innovation center.”
Invest NI's Andrea Haughian echoed this sentiment, describing the development as a result of strategic collaboration between local and international teams. “SpiderRock’s choice underscores Northern Ireland’s reputation as a competitive fintech destination with a highly skilled workforce.”
With its new Belfast base, SpiderRock aims to bolster its global strategy, build brand recognition in Europe, and deliver advanced solutions to an expanding client base. This investment also reinforces Northern Ireland’s position as an emerging hub for financial technology innovation.
