SquaredFinancial, Nasdaq, STARTRADER and Other Four Companies Are Hiring Now
Layoffs are once again making waves in the banking industry. Several Wall Street banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, and Goldman Sachs, have successively announced their latest layoff plans, affecting thousands of employees in total. Among them, Morgan Stanley's workforce reduction plan was concentrated in its Asian division, part of which includes severing ties with six of its managing directors, many of whom were at the helm of its China banking operations. First Citizens Bank, which acquired assets from beleaguered Silicon Valley Bank in March, also cut around 500 positions held by former SVB staff.
In addition, Singapore's Temasek Holdings said it cut compensation for the team that recommended investing in the now-bankrupt FTX cryptocurrency exchange and for senior management, as they take "collective accountability" for the failed investment. Fintech company Marqeta revealed it would reduce its employee workforce by 15%, or about 150 employees, to streamline and right-size the company in the interest of producing profits. While the US-based B2B paytech Plastiq was implicated by Silicon Valley Bank and ultimately did not escape the fate of bankruptcy.
In terms of the crypto industry, Nansen, a blockchain analytics platform, has announced a significant restructuring plan, which includes reducing its staff by 30%. Moreover, just over a year after launching its crypto unit, American independent investment bank TD Cowen has announced the shutdown of Cowen Digital, though it has not provided a clear reason why.
