In a move to strengthen its position in the fast-evolving real-time payments landscape, Stripe has acquired Orum, a U.S.-based fintech company specializing in payment APIs. While financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, the strategic deal underscores Stripe's continued investment in building a comprehensive payments infrastructure.

Founded in 2019 by fintech entrepreneur Stephany Kirkpatrick, Orum provides businesses access to a full suite of U.S. payment rails - RTP, FedNow, Same Day ACH, standard ACH, wires, and Visa Direct - through a unified API. This approach simplifies integration for clients and reduces the regulatory complexity often associated with accessing multiple banking networks.

Kirkpatrick, who will join Stripe as part of the transaction, said the acquisition was a logical next step in Orum's trajectory. "It became clear that we have a rare opportunity to accelerate Orum's mission and greatly increase our impact by becoming part of Stripe," she wrote in a blog post. She emphasized the alignment of both companies in working toward a more efficient and inclusive financial system.

The deal follows closely on the heels of two other Stripe acquisitions in the digital asset space, suggesting a broader strategy to future-proof its offerings for both traditional and crypto-native financial services. Industry observers see the Orum acquisition as a calculated move to bolster Stripe's appeal to large enterprises seeking faster, programmable solutions for moving money in real time.

By bringing Orum's technology and team in-house, Stripe gains a deeper foothold in U.S. payment innovation at a time when speed and flexibility in transactions are becoming key competitive differentiators.
