Sumitomo Life adopts Bloomberg RMS Enterprise for institutional research management

Sumitomo Life Insurance Company has adopted Bloomberg’s Research Management Solutions (RMS Enterprise), Bloomberg’s enterprise research management solution for institutional investment teams, Bloomberg announced on Friday. Sumitomo Life is the first institutional investor in Japan to adopt the solution.

Bloomberg RMS Enterprise allows institutional investment firms to centralize proprietary research, financial models, investment recommendations and commentary in a governed environment, connecting them with Bloomberg data and portfolio analytics. The solution will support Sumitomo Life’s Equity Alpha Group, including its Japan Equity Team, Global Equity Team and Engagements Team, across the investment research process, from idea generation and financial modelling to investment recommendations and portfolio construction.

The solution has been customized for Sumitomo Life’s specific investment process, enabling the company to centrally manage and utilize its proprietary research templates and data fields through a unified dashboard.

As part of the implementation, Sumitomo Life will also adopt BQL for PORT Enterprise, an API module for Bloomberg Query Language within Bloomberg PORT that enables data from its portfolio positions to be integrated with external systems. With BQL for PORT Enterprise, Sumitomo Life can connect its internal research and proprietary data, including its portfolio holdings, enabling its investment team to more efficiently evaluate investment ideas alongside their existing positions and risk exposures.

Kota Kanno, General Manager of the Balanced Portfolio Investment Department at Sumitomo Life, said that as market conditions become increasingly complex, enhancing the quality of investment decision-making requires individual investment professionals to make better use of insights generated throughout the organization. He said the two solutions will allow the firm to centrally manage and share proprietary research and data accumulated across the company and combine these insights with portfolio information, which is expected to further enhance the efficiency of its entire investment management process, from identifying investment ideas and making investment decisions to portfolio construction.

A longstanding Bloomberg client, Sumitomo Life also uses Bloomberg Asset and Investment Manager (AIM), PORT Enterprise, Bloomberg FX Electronic Trading (FXGO), Bloomberg Fixed Income Trading (FIT) and Bloomberg Valuation Service (BVAL) across its investment workflow.

RMS Enterprise users can access ASKB, the Bloomberg Terminal’s conversational AI interface, to analyze and surface insights from their team’s research and proprietary financial models. ASKB helps investment teams refine their investment theses with agentic AI assistance across the full investment research lifecycle.

Norman Tweeboom, Head of Enterprise Sales, Japan, at Bloomberg, said the company was proud to support Sumitomo Life’s vision for how technology can strengthen its investment process. He said that by bringing Bloomberg’s data, analytics and research capabilities closer to its investment teams, Bloomberg is helping Sumitomo Life get more value from its proprietary expertise and make more informed investment decisions. Tweeboom described the adoption as an important milestone in the longstanding technology relationship and for the further deployment of Bloomberg’s research management solution in Japan.

RMS Enterprise is part of Bloomberg Buyside Solutions, which delivers multi-asset capabilities across the full investment lifecycle. With a modular and flexible approach, Bloomberg Buyside Solutions offer research management, order and execution management, portfolio and risk analytics, trade compliance and operations capabilities.
