Under the collaboration, Sumsub’s Travel Rule solution is natively integrated into the Fireblocks platform, enabling real-time verification and secure, encrypted data exchange between virtual asset service providers (VASPs). The integration allows institutions to automate Travel Rule requirements while maintaining efficient transaction execution, without relying on external or manual compliance processes.

The move comes as regulators globally push digital asset firms beyond basic compliance frameworks and toward scalable, operational enforcement of anti-money laundering controls.

Addressing Stablecoin Growth and Rising Compliance Complexity

The two companies said the integration is designed to reduce operational friction for VASPs as stablecoin transactions expand and settlement infrastructures remain fragmented.

According to Sumsub, stablecoin transaction volumes approached nearly $1 trillion per month last year, roughly doubling compared with 2024 levels. This surge has placed increasing pressure on VASPs to manage complex compliance obligations across multiple counterparties and jurisdictions.

At the same time, regulatory momentum continues to build. Frameworks such as the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), guidance from the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), and recent updates from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) are reinforcing expectations that Travel Rule compliance must be fully embedded into operational transaction flows.

Fireblocks said the partnership reflects a broader industry shift away from treating compliance as a separate function and toward integrating regulatory controls directly into core transaction infrastructure.

Connecting VASPs Across Global Travel Rule Networks

Within the integrated setup, Fireblocks remains the primary transaction processing layer, while Sumsub enables real-time Travel Rule data exchange across counterparties.

Sumsub’s Travel Rule solution connects to more than 1,800 VASPs worldwide and supports multiple industry protocols, including GTR, CODE, Sygna, and Sumsub’s proprietary protocol. This allows originator and beneficiary information to be exchanged automatically and securely during virtual asset transfers, without disrupting transaction speed or user experience.

The companies said the integration is intended to offer VASPs a scalable compliance pathway, removing the need to develop in-house Travel Rule infrastructure while supporting encrypted, protocol-agnostic data sharing.

Both Sumsub and Fireblocks positioned the collaboration as a step toward enabling seamless, risk-based compliance at scale—particularly for stablecoin payment flows, where automation, interoperability, and regulatory alignment are increasingly critical.
