Identity verification provider Sumsub has unveiled a new solution designed to address the growing risks posed by AI-driven automation. The company has launched AI Agent Verification, a new capability within its Know Your Agent (KYA) framework that links automated activity directly to a verified human identity.

As AI agents and browser-based automation become increasingly common, many businesses struggle to distinguish legitimate automation from fraudulent behavior. In most cases, automated activity is treated as suspicious by default and blocked outright. Sumsub’s latest approach aims to change that by allowing lawful, human-authorized automation to operate while stopping malicious agent-based attacks.

Instead of flagging all automation as a threat, AI Agent Verification classifies automation as a manageable risk. The system detects automated behavior, evaluates its risk level in real time, and only applies additional verification steps when risk thresholds are exceeded. This enables businesses to maintain security controls without disrupting legitimate operations.

In higher-risk situations, the solution can trigger targeted liveness checks to confirm that a real, authorized person is present. This mechanism helps prevent deepfake-driven impersonation and ensures that automated actions remain traceable to an accountable individual. By applying a risk-based model, the system minimizes friction for compliant users while maintaining strong safeguards against abuse.

According to Sumsub, the launch reflects a broader shift in how automation should be governed. Rather than attempting to assess the trustworthiness of AI agents themselves, the focus is placed on verifying the humans who deploy and control them.

AI Agent Verification builds on the core components of Sumsub’s full-cycle verification platform, including real-time bot detection, device and network intelligence, liveness verification, and continuous risk monitoring. These tools work together to identify coordinated fraud patterns, detect mule networks, and assess behavioral signals across the entire customer lifecycle.

The company argues that automation alone is not the core issue—lack of accountability is. When AI agents can create accounts, move funds, or transact at scale without a verified individual behind them, fraud becomes significantly harder to control. By enforcing human verification at critical moments, AI Agent Verification introduces a clear accountability layer into automated workflows.

With this launch, Sumsub positions AI Agent Verification as a way for organizations to safely embrace automation while maintaining control, transparency, and compliance in an increasingly AI-driven environment.
