Swiss National Bank Reveals Record Loss of CHF 132 Billion in 2022

The Swiss National Bank posted an annual loss of 132 billion Swiss francs in 2022, it said on Monday, the biggest loss in its 115-year history.
The loss on foreign currency positions amounted to around CHF 131 billion and the loss on Swiss franc positions was around CHF 1 billion. A valuation gain of CHF 0.4 billion was recorded on gold holdings.
The central bank plunged into the red as falling stock and fixed-income markets hit the value of its share and bond portfolio, while the appreciation of the Swiss franc also had a negative impact.
Monday's figure, which marked a reverse from a 26 billion franc profit in 2021, was bigger than the previously biggest loss of 23 billion francs chalked up in 2015.
The detailed report on the annual result with definitive figures will be released on 6 March 2023; the Annual Report will be published on 22 March 2023.
