Taiwan Stock Exchange to Offer Intraday Odd Lot Trading
Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) announced on Monday the offering of Intraday odd lot trading as of October 26, 2020. This addition to Intraday trading aims to provide small investors with greater access to equity markets.
Prior to the new launch, odd-lot trades were only available in after-hours trading. During regular trading between 9am to 1.30pm, the standard lot size was 1,000 shares.
On the first day, TWSE recorded 46,164 odd lot transactions valued at TWD 363 million (USD 12.7 million), representing 0.22 percent of the TAIEX's total turnover.
The new system TWSE adopted now accepts intraday odd lot orders electronically from 9am to 1.30pm and executes the opening call auction at 9.10am, followed by periodic call auctions in 3-minute intervals.
Orders are executed in strict price and time priority. Only day limit orders are accepted. Margin trades and short sales are not permitted.
Individual securities firms have the discretion to decide whether to offer intraday odd lot trading to their customers.
