Tether Adds Former U.S. Policy Official Amid Push Into American Market
Tether has appointed Bo Hines, a former White House official involved in cryptocurrency policy, as a strategic adviser to guide its activities in the United States. The move comes as the issuer of the USDT stablecoin increases its focus on regulatory and market developments in the country.
Hines most recently served as executive director of the Presidential Council of Advisers for Digital Assets, where he was involved in shaping legislation including the GENIUS Act, a proposed regulatory framework for stablecoins. He left the government post in August and will now work with Tether on matters related to U.S. digital asset regulation and engagement with policymakers.
Tether, which operates the largest dollar-linked stablecoin by market capitalization, has historically concentrated its operations outside the United States. Bringing in a former federal policy adviser indicates the company is preparing to expand its presence in the U.S. market while navigating increasing scrutiny of stablecoin issuers.
The appointment underscores how companies issuing stablecoins are moving to align more closely with evolving regulatory frameworks. U.S. authorities have intensified efforts to define oversight for dollar-pegged tokens, as demand for them has grown in both retail and institutional markets.
By adding Hines, Tether gains an adviser familiar with U.S. legislative processes and regulatory priorities as the company adapts its strategy to potential changes in the American digital asset environment.
