The Tokyo Stock Exchange resumed normao operation today with the open price of Nikkei 225 growing by 0.47% after halting trading in all listed stocks on Thursday due to system failure when most other Asian markets were still closed for national holidays.

The shutdown also affected the normal operation of other bourses in Fukuoka, Nagoya and Sapporo, which used the same trading system, while the Osaka Exchange, which used a different system and mainly traded derivatives products and index futures, was unaffected.

The system failure caused widespread influence on Japan's capital market, but JPY's exchange rate still remained stable.

The bourse published a statement less than 30 minutes before normal opening on Thursday, stating that stock trading was halted due to "glitches linked to the delivery of market information" and efforts were being made for resuming.

At around 11:30 am, TSE published another statement, announcing that all trading on the full day would be canceled.

In a press conference held by the bourse at 16:30 local time yesterday, the Exchange confirmed that the glitch was caused by a malfunctioning disk.

TSE decided to restart the overall system and replace the hardware. All trading orders on October 1 would be invalid, and new orders would be received starting from October 2 at the same close price on September 30.

Japan Exchange Group (JPX) Chief Information Officer Ryusuke Yokoyama denied the possibility of cyberattacks, as the malfunctioning area was not connected to internet.

Statistics show that 3,709 companies are listed on TSE, with 3682 stocks under normal trading recently. Calculated at the end price on September 30, all TSE listed companies totaled 43.46 trillion RMB in market value, among which 92 exceeded 100 billion RMB. Mizuho Financial Group ranked the top with market value of 2.14 trillion RMB, followed by other giant companies with market value of more than 500 billion RMB such as Toyota, Softbank, and SONY.
