Thunes, a global payments infrastructure provider, has expanded its real-time cross-border payment network to Saudi Arabia, enabling instant transfers to local bank accounts and mobile wallets in Saudi Riyals (SAR). The move reflects the growing demand for faster, transparent, and efficient international payments in the Kingdom as digital adoption accelerates.

Through its proprietary Direct Global Network, Thunes allows participating businesses and financial institutions to initiate immediate payouts, bypassing traditional intermediaries. This capability is expected to improve settlement times for various use cases, including corporate disbursements, remittances, and the management of Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage-related transactions, which involve millions of users and complex fund flows.

According to recent reports, inbound remittances to Saudi Arabia are projected to reach approximately USD 232 billion in 2025, highlighting the significance of digital solutions that enhance speed and visibility. A Thunes study indicated that 65% of expatriates prioritize transaction speed when sending money, emphasizing the market relevance of instant payments.

Ahmad Yaacoub, Vice President for MENA and Country Head for Saudi Arabia, commented: “Saudi Arabia’s financial sector is experiencing rapid digitization, and real-time cross-border payments are becoming a central requirement. By connecting directly to the local banking network, Thunes provides members with tools to meet these expectations efficiently.”

Thunes’ global reach encompasses over 130 countries and 80 currencies, connecting more than 7 billion mobile wallets and bank accounts. The company emphasizes compliance, operational control, and cost efficiency through its SmartX Treasury System and Fortress Compliance Platform, ensuring secure, auditable, and reliable payment flows for institutional clients and fintech partners.

The expansion positions Thunes as a key facilitator for financial inclusion in the Middle East, supporting both businesses and individuals in engaging with the global economy through faster and more transparent payment mechanisms. Thunes is presenting the solution at Money 2020 Middle East in Riyadh from September 15–17, 2025, showcasing the operational and strategic benefits of direct real-time payments in emerging markets.
