TMX Group Sees Monthly Decrease Across Its Market Places for December 2022

TMX Group, a global financial service company that operates global markets, has released its trading statistics for its market places including Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, TSX Alpha Exchange (Alpha) and Montréal Exchange (MX) for December 2022, seeing monthly decrease in its average daily volume (ADV).

All TMX Equities Marketplaces

For December 2022, TMX reported an ADV of 575.4 million contracts for all its marketplaces, compared with 573.1 million contracts in November 2022 and 633.2 million contracts in December 2021. The trading value of contracts for the month came in at $11,613.5 million per day, compared to $11,358.6 million in November 2022 and $11,906.4 million in December 2021.

The total volumes of all TMX equities marketplaces came in at 11,508,986,230 contracts, down 8.7% from 12,608,068,317 contracts of last month and down 11.3% from 12,980,137,691 contracts of the same period of 2021. The trading value for the month was $232,270,649,579, compared to $249,888,404,541 in November 2022 and $244,080,853,076 in December 2021.

Toronto Stock Exchange

The total volume for the month was 7,667,180,075 contracts, down 10.2% from 8,538,558,088 contracts in November 2022 and down 4.1% from 7,992,497,639 contracts of December 2021.

The ADV reached 383.4 million contracts in December 2022, compared to 388.1 million contracts in November 2022 and 389.9 million contracts in December 2021. The trading value for the month was $10,907.4 million per day, up 3.2% on monthly basis and up 2.7% on yearly basis.

TSX Venture Exchange

The total volume for the month was 2,800,332,603 contracts, down 3.2% from 2,892,427,153 contracts in November and down 19.4% from 3,475,682,922 contracts in December 2021.

The ADV reached 140.0 million contracts for the month, compared to 131.5 million contracts in November 2022 and 169.5 million contracts in December 2021. The trading value for December 2022 was $48.7 million per day, sharply down 64.5% from $137.0 million of the same period of 2021, but slightly up from $46.7 million in last month.

TSX Alpha Exchange

The total volume for the month was 1,041,473,552 contracts, down 11.5% from 1,177,083,076 contracts in November 2022 and down 31.1% from 1,511,957,130 contracts in December 2021.

The ADV was 52.1 million contracts for the month, compared to 53.5 million contacts in November 2022 and 73.8 million contracts in December 2021. The trading value for the month was $657.5 million per day, a decrease of 11.8% on a MoM basis and a decrease of 42.9% on a YoY basis.

Montréal Exchange

The volume of derivatives was 11,508,159 contracts, down 19.0% from 14,200,957 contracts in November 2022 and down 4.6% from 12,068,952 in December 2021.

The trading volume of Open Interest reached 13,290,700 contracts, up 18.1% on yearly basis from December 2021's 11,252,972, but down 11.1% from 14,958,020 in November 2022.
