TMX Group Limited, a Canadian financial services company that operates equities, fixed income, derivatives, and energy markets exchanges, has released its trading volumes for the second quarter ended June 30, 2022.
According to the official figures, the revenue on the platform for the period came in at $286.1 million, showing an increase of 17 percent on a year-over-year basis. The revenue was $245 million in Q2 of 2021.
TMX Group' net income reached $92.1 million, which is 19 percent higher compared to the same period in 2021. In addition, the exchange operator saw its adjusted net income decreased by 2 percent from $107.1 million in Q2 2021 to $105.3 million in Q2 2022.
Furthermore, the diluted earnings per share increased 20% from $1.37 in Q2 2021 to $1.64 in this quarter. And the adjusted diluted earnings per share reached $1.88, a decline of 1 percent over $1.9 in Q1 2021.
Commenting on the first half of 2022, John McKenzie, Chief Executive Officer of TMX Group, said:"TMX delivered positive results for the first half of the year, despite challenging conditions across much of our operating environment. While external factors, including increased volatility, higher interest rates and geopolitical events had a negative impact on global capital markets activity, year-over-year growth was driven by increased revenue from Trayport and Derivatives Trading and Clearing, as well as revenue from AST Canada, acquired in August 2021."
Commenting on TMX Group's performance in the second quarter of 2022, David Arnold, Chief Financial Officer of TMX Group, said:"TMX's results for the second quarter reflect the continued resiliency of our diverse business model, with overall revenue growth of 17%, including increases across all our business segments."
