TSE to Extend Closing Time of Afternoon Session for arrowhead Trading by 30 Mintues

Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) today (September 20) has made the decision to extend the trading hours in conjunction with the launch of the next generation trading system, arrowhead 4.0, which is set to roll out on November 5, 2024.

Due to this adjustment, the afternoon session for arrowhead trading will see an extension of 30 minutes, with the new trading time being 12:30 - 15:30.

According to TSE, the implementation of these revisions aims to address the evolving market landscape and the diverse needs of investors, as well as to improve the convenience, global competitiveness, and resilience of market participants.

Extending trading hours has become one of the major measures taken by trading institutions to meet the trading needs of the market. In July this year, Interactive Brokers​ expanded its Overnight Trading Hours service, greatly reducing the restrictions on trading products and trading hours across different markets.

In addition, starting from January 3, 2023, the closing time of Onshore RMB trading has been extended from 11:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. the next day. The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE)​ CEO is also pushing for longer trading hours in equities to enable financial institutions to increase participation in hedging and liquidity-providing activities, as well as to allow retail investors to better manage overnight risk.
