TWSE Sets 26 October Launch Date for Odd-Lot Trading

Currently, odd-lot trading is only permitted in after-hours trading. Starting 26 October, odd-lot orders will be accepted during the regular trading session.
The TWSE (Taiwan Stock Exchange) has announced a launch date for intraday odd-lot trading on 26 October.
Last year, the FSC (Financial Supervisory Commission) announced its intent to introduce intraday odd-lot trading in the second half of 2020, to make big-ticket stocks more affordable for individual investors and help to boost daily turnover.
Currently, odd-lot trades are only permitted in after-hours trading, whereby such orders can be placed from 1.40pm to 2.30pm each day, for call auction matching at 2.30pm. During regular trading between 9am to 1.30pm, the standard lot size is 1,000 shares.
Starting 26 October, odd-lot orders will be accepted during the regular trading session from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, with the opening call auction executed at 9:10 am, followed by periodic call auctions in 3-minute intervals, which provides investors more time to place or adjust orders, the TWSE said.
The existing after-hours odd lot trading system will remain unchanged.
“Allowing intraday odd-lots trades is expected to boost retail stock market participation and increase daily turnover,” the TWSE said in a statement.
