UOB Names Leong Yung Chee as New Group Chief Financial Officer

f0cfe1a86d44a818a2d74ea36273c3d.jpegUnited Overseas Bank (UOB) has announced the appointment of Leong Yung Chee as its new Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective April 22, 2025. Leong, who is currently the Head of Group Corporate Banking, will succeed Lee Wai Fai, who is retiring after two decades in the role.

Leong brings 25 years of experience in financial services, having held various leadership positions in corporate and investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic transformation. He joined UOB in 2016 after a 15-year tenure at several international banks, including Macquarie Group, Credit Suisse, and Merrill Lynch. In his new role, Leong will guide UOB's financial strategy and oversee key functions such as finance, treasury, and data management.

As part of this transition, Edmund Leong will take over as the new Head of Group Corporate Banking, also effective April 22, 2025. He will continue in his current role as Head of Group Investment Banking. This leadership change is part of UOB's strategy to refresh its senior management team and ensure continuity in leadership as it addresses the evolving needs of its regional customer base .

Lee Wai Fai, who has been with UOB since 1989 and became CFO in 2005, will remain with the bank to oversee the Corporate Real Estate and Services function and UOB Asset Management after his retirement from the CFO position.

This appointment marks a significant shift in UOB's management, as Leong will be the youngest member of the bank's top executive committee, which is led by CEO Wee Ee Cheong .
