The cooperative initiative will focus on the development of financial instruments, project finance, the local debt market, and capital markets.

The US Treasury and Thailand's Ministry of Finance have signed an agreement to strengthen infrastructure finance and market building cooperation.

The cooperative initiative is designed to achieve the mutual goals of the US and Thailand to support infrastructure development through market-oriented, private sector investment, the Treasury Department said in a statement.

Under the framework, both countries will address regulatory, market, and legal barriers to private sector investment by focusing on the development of financial instruments, project finance, the local debt market, and capital markets.

"This framework supports economic growth and our shared goals to meet infrastructure needs through market-oriented, private sector investment in Thailand and across Southeast Asia," said US Treasury Assistant Secretary Mitchell Silk.

Thailand Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith exchanged the signed documents with US ambassador Michael George DeSombre on Monday (26 October).

The US and Thailand are highlighting the framework at the Indo-Pacific Business Forum in Hanoi, Vietnam on 28 October.

The engagement supports the US government's broader Indo-Pacific Strategy.
