Varun Matta to Join Citigroup as Head of TMT Investment Banking for ASEAN

Fazzaco learned that the global leading bank Citigroup has named Varun Matta as head of technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) investment banking for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region to bolster dealmaking.

Reportedly, Matta’s appointment will be effective in a few months in Singapore. He will serve as  Managing Director and will be responsible for some sponsor clients for the region. Besides, he will report to Jim Perry and Ho-Yin Lee, co-heads of TMT for Asia Pacific and David Biller, head of ASEAN banking, capital markets and advisory.

As detailed on his LinkedIn, Matta has been based in Singapore for nealy 14 years. Most recently, he was Managing Director & Head, Mergers & Acquisitions, Financial Sponsors at a leading ASEAN universal bank CIMB. Prior to this, he was Director, Investment Banking of Delta Partners. Furthermore, he has been with Credit Sussie from August 2010 to November2016 as Director, Investment Banking, South East Asia.

In June, Fazzaco reported that Citiggroup has officially launched a new business unit, Digital Assets Group​, to enter the cryptocurrency and blockchain space.
