The move signals a broader industry shift where AI is becoming the next competitive battleground for retail brokerages.

The new feature, powered by the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enables users to query real-time data, check positions, place orders, and manage portfolios via natural-language commands. This aims to democratize advanced trading automation, previously accessible only to quantitative firms and developers, for mainstream retail traders.

According to the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, approximately 81% of financial firms now use AI in some capacity. Webull Group President and U.S. CEO Anthony Denier stated, "AI is fundamentally changing how investors can engage with markets, and MCP reflects Webull's commitment to being at the forefront of that change."

The platform shift represents a behavioral change, replacing charts, buttons, and screen navigation with conversation. A trader could, for instance, command, "Buy 10 Tesla shares if CPI comes below expectations tomorrow." Webull, serving over 27 million users globally, noted active traders have been using the MCP server since April.

Webull is not alone in this arms race. TradeStation, Interactive Brokers, Robinhood, and crypto exchanges like OKX and Bybit are all integrating AI-assisted tools. As markets operate increasingly on a continuous, automated basis, brokers are competing to offer AI copilots that can monitor positions and execute workflows faster than humans alone.

Substantial risks accompany this opportunity. Webull's announcement included a warning that users remain fully responsible for order verification, highlighting concerns over AI hallucinations and misinterpretation. Regulators may eventually face complex questions regarding liability for AI-generated trading errors and automated retail losses.

The long-term implication is a potential redefinition of the trading platform itself, where AI assistants and voice interaction become primary, and traditional dashboards become secondary. This could drastically lower the barrier to sophisticated market tools, changing how a new generation of investors interacts with finance. The brokerage competition may increasingly hinge on which platform builds the most effective AI trading assistant.
