What Happens When Finance Meets Compassion? EBC's Heartfelt Ramadan Project Reveals All
Summary: EBC Financial Group's Ramadan initiative at Berdikari Elderly Cottage demonstrated the power of compassion, improving the lives of elderly residents and strengthening community bonds.
In the finance world, we often talk about growth, performance, and profits. But every now and then, we are reminded that the most meaningful returns come not from the markets, but from the impact we create in real lives. This Ramadan, we had the privilege of stepping away from our screens and into a space where compassion led the way — Berdikari Elderly Cottage in Tangerang, Banten.

At EBC Financial Group, our Corporate Social Responsibility efforts are not just formalities. They are a reflection of who we are, and the values we hold close. With that spirit, we spent a day at Berdikari, a respected elderly care home that has quietly cared for 29 elderly residents with limited resources and a small but dedicated team of 10 staff members.
A Home in Need, a Community Deserving More
We visited Berdikari with a mission to uplift, connect, and contribute. The needs of the care home were clear — ageing infrastructure, essential supplies, and a lack of consistent external support. We saw this as an opportunity to make a tangible difference, not just for one day, but for the long term.
The residents of Berdikari have given decades to society. It was our turn to give back, not with grand gestures, but with practical, heartfelt support that made their lives a little more comfortable and a lot more joyful.
Hands-On Help: More Than Just Donations
Our team took a hands-on approach from the outset. One of the key concerns was the condition of the bathroom facilities. We rolled up our sleeves and repaired critical infrastructure to ensure safer and more accessible restrooms. It may seem like a small task, but for elderly residents, such changes mean greater dignity and daily comfort.
We also provided essential grocery packages. These were carefully curated to meet the nutritional needs of the residents over the coming months. For the staff, this meant relief from some of the daily burdens of providing care. For the residents, it meant knowing that they are remembered and supported.
Sharing Smiles Through Art and Togetherness
Material help was only part of the story. Emotional well-being was just as important. We led a recreational colouring session where residents could explore creativity, express themselves, and enjoy a peaceful, shared activity. Watching them pick up colouring pencils, smile at the pages, and engage with our volunteers was a powerful reminder of how joy often lives in the simplest of moments.
Later, we joined everyone for a shared iftar meal. As we broke the day's fast together, we were no longer visitors or guests. We were a community. The spirit of Ramadan came alive not just in prayer or tradition, but in togetherness and empathy.
Voices That Made It All Worthwhile
One of the most memorable parts of the visit was hearing from those directly impacted by our efforts.
"The assistance we received from EBC Financial Group has made a huge difference in our daily operations. It allows us to provide better care to our elderly residents, and most importantly, it reminds us that they are valued and cared for by the wider community," said Mr. Soleh, a caregiver at Berdikari Elderly Cottage.
For many of us who participated, the day offered lessons in gratitude and perspective. Febrian Saputra, our Business Development Manager who helped organise the event, captured it perfectly:
"This initiative is part of our continued effort to make a real difference in the communities we're part of. Seeing the smiles, hearing the stories, and simply being present with the residents reminded us that impact goes beyond donations. It's about human connection. We're proud to support Berdikari Elderly Cottage and look forward to building more meaningful partnerships that uplift and strengthen our communities."
A Legacy Beyond a Single Day
Our support for Berdikari is part of a wider mission to build resilience across underserved communities in Indonesia. Last year, during Ramadan, we renovated mosque facilities and provided aid to 75 orphaned children in Banten. These acts are connected by a single thread — creating meaningful, long-lasting impact through purposeful engagement.
We are planning further initiatives focused on education, sustainability, and empowerment. These include scholarships for underprivileged children, financial literacy programmes, and environmental projects that benefit both people and the planet.
More Than a Financial Institution
This Ramadan, we also celebrated a meaningful milestone: securing trademark registration for our logo in Indonesia. While that may seem like a business step, for us it symbolises long-term commitment. We are here not just to operate, but to belong. We want to contribute to the economy, society, and future of Indonesia in ways that are lasting and sincere.
In the End, It's All About People
Whether we are talking about financial strategies or humanitarian outreach, we come back to the same principle. People matter most. Our visit to Berdikari was a reminder that while numbers may drive markets, it is kindness and care that sustain communities.
We left with more than memories. We left with renewed purpose. And as we continue our journey, we carry with us every smile, every story, and every moment of connection we shared during that special day.
