XTB Adds Emergency Lock Feature to Investment App to Strengthen Account Protection

XTB has launched a new security feature called Emergency Lock within its investment application. The tool allows users to instantly block withdrawals, card payments, and asset transactions via a single in-app action if they suspect unauthorized access. The brokerage stated the feature aims to give clients more direct control as digital fraud and identity theft incidents rise across financial services. It is available to all users of the XTB app.
The Emergency Lock function enables clients to suspend key account activities immediately. Once activated, it blocks the purchase and sale of financial instruments, prevents withdrawals from currency accounts, and disables linked eWallet transactions. This provides a rapid response mechanism for investors who notice suspicious login activity or believe their credentials are compromised. The feature freezes multiple functions to prevent unauthorized transfers while the user verifies security. To restore access, users must change their password and then confirm identity via facial scanning before the account is unlocked.
The launch addresses growing security concerns as online investment platforms expand. The growth of digital finance has increased exposure to cyber threats like phishing, data breaches, and account takeover attempts. Fraud networks often seek credentials through deceptive emails or fake websites, potentially leading to unauthorized fund transfers or trades. Financial institutions have responded with safeguards like multi-factor authentication and biometric verification. Emergency response tools that let users block account activity have become more common in digital security strategies.
Omar Arnaout, CEO at XTB, commented on the feature. "Digital and cybersecurity threats are rising fast, and still, too many people feel powerless when something looks wrong," he said. Arnaout stated the feature was designed to provide immediate control to users who believe their accounts may be at risk. "We wanted to give our clients a way to take back control in seconds," he commented. He added that it allows investors to secure accounts while investigating suspicious activity. "Emergency lock protects their money instantly and gives them the peace of mind that their money works securely for them," Arnaout said.
Brokerage firms are increasingly strengthening cybersecurity as user numbers grow. Mobile trading apps store sensitive financial data and provide direct access to client funds, making unauthorized access a significant risk. Security features enabling users to monitor and control accounts directly through apps have become a key development area. These tools include login alerts, activity notifications, and the ability to temporarily restrict transactions. The introduction of emergency locking functions reflects an effort to give investors more control during suspected security incidents.
XTB's investment application provides access to asset classes including equities, exchange traded funds, and derivatives. The company reports its platform is used by over two million investors globally. Users can invest in stocks and ETFs and trade contracts for difference linked to indices, currencies, commodities, and digital assets. In certain European markets, the platform also offers tax-advantaged investment products and retirement accounts. Some users can earn interest on uninvested cash and use integrated payment features like eWallet transactions. The addition of the Emergency Lock feature is part of the company's effort to expand security controls within its mobile platform.
