XTB Data Shows Women Deposit 48% More Than Men, Challenge Industry Stereotypes

Women opening investment accounts at XTB deposit nearly 50% more on their first transaction than men, according to internal data from the Warsaw-based broker. The figures, from MiFID questionnaires and transaction data collected between April and December 2025, show an average first deposit of 802 euros for women compared to 541 euros for men. The dataset covers more than 155,000 clients.

The female share of XTB's investor base has grown from roughly 7% in 2021 to nearly 19% today, a shift the broker attributes partly to its education and product development efforts. Artur Babicz, PR and Influencer Manager at XTB, described the trend as highly encouraging. "For many women, investing is simply an element of building their own financial independence," he said, adding the company aims to make investing a natural element of financial management.

One counterintuitive finding concerns investment goals. When asked about their primary objective, 22% of women cited profit maximization, compared to 23% of men, showing near-parity and challenging assumptions that female investors are inherently more conservative. Savings data reinforces this: 29% of women versus 26% of men fell into a middle savings bracket, indicating slightly greater female representation in that tier.

This trend is not new. XTB's 2024 data showed women accounted for 12% of new investors in 2023, with preferred instruments mirroring those of men. The shift fits a wider pattern, though female representation in fintech leadership lags; women hold only 6% of fintech CEO roles globally.

The 48% first-deposit premium contradicts a narrative that women deposit less and need more guidance. The data does not explain why the initial deposit is larger, leaving open possibilities like better preparation or demographic differences. While the data covers only XTB's Polish client base and is not broadly representative, a 19% female share at a major broker is notable in an industry where 90% of CFD and forex traders are male.
