This strategic move aims to bolster the company’s footprint in the European market, which is seeing a surge in demand for payment solutions as the region’s e-commerce sector is set to reach a projected $721.3 billion by 2025. The company continues its push for global growth, marking Europe as the next key region for expansion.

Miguel Duarte Fernandes, who brings over two decades of experience in the payments sector, joins Yuno after significant roles at Checkout.com, PayPal, Braintree, and SIBS. His career has been characterized by his work in helping merchants navigate the complexities of payment systems across diverse sectors, including travel, fashion, retail, and digital services. At Yuno, he will focus on growing the company’s European presence and accelerating its mission to empower merchants with an integrated payment orchestration platform.

His appointment is seen as pivotal in addressing a recurring challenge within the payments landscape—merchants’ reliance on a single acquirer or gateway, which may not be suitable as they expand into new markets. Yuno offers a solution to this issue by enabling businesses to access a wide range of payment providers and methods through a single, seamless integration. This allows companies to better cater to local preferences while ensuring the reliability and efficiency of transactions.

Juan Pablo Ortega, Yuno’s Co-founder and CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for Miguel’s addition to the team, noting the valuable experience he brings to the table. “We are thrilled to welcome Miguel to the Yuno team. His expertise and deep understanding of the payments ecosystem will be crucial in accelerating our mission to empower merchants globally. Yuno has already made a significant impact, helping clients across the world to simplify payments and deliver better user experiences. With offices in Singapore, China, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States, we are now doubling down on Europe as the next key phase of our global expansion. We’re committed to providing businesses with the best payment solutions, and Miguel’s proven track record and passion for empowering businesses will be invaluable as we continue to grow in this key region.”

For his part, Miguel Duarte Fernandes commented on the opportunity to join Yuno, recognizing the platform’s potential to revolutionize how merchants manage payments. “Yuno is solving one of the most pressing challenges in the payments ecosystem: empowering merchants with seamless access to the best acquirers, gateways, and alternative payment methods (APMs) globally through a single integration. By eliminating the constraints of traditional manual payment setups, Yuno enables businesses to scale effortlessly and unlock their full potential. I’m thrilled to join a team that is reimagining payments for the 21st century and helping merchants achieve unparalleled success.”

Based in Lisbon, Miguel will oversee all of Europe, reporting directly to the company’s global leadership team. This appointment is part of Yuno’s broader expansion strategy, which is supported by leading investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Tiger Global, DST Global Partners, Kaszek Ventures, and Monashees. Yuno’s growth trajectory is fueled by its cutting-edge technology and commitment to helping businesses thrive in an increasingly digital and global marketplace.
