Alan Carlisle Joins Marqeta as Chief Compliance Officer

Marqeta, the global modern card issuing platform, yesterday announced that Alan Carlisle has joined the company as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO). In his new role, he will be responsible for elevating and expanding Marqeta's system for managing regulatory compliance.

Carlisle joined Marqeta from SoFi, a publicly traded American online personal finance company and bank where he served as CCO for more than six years and led its lending, mortgage, securities, and banking sectors. His tenure at SoFi coincided with the company's massive scaling, as it expanded from a few hundred to over 4,000 employees. Before SoFi, Carlisle had held key compliance roles at several financial services companies, such as FlashFunders, SCF Securities, and Charter Pacific. He started his career in January 1998, having served as an independent consultant with nearly a decade of working for and forging relationships with financial services firms.

Carlisle holds a number of compliance certifications, including CIPM, CRCM, CAMS, CRCP, CAFP, CGSS, and CIPP-US. He also acts as a regulatory strategic advisor for various fintech and regulatory technology companies, such as Obsepio, Public, Universal Ledger, Argus, and Tennis Finance. Carlisle serves as a Committee Member at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), a nongovernmental organization that writes and enforces rules for brokers and broker-dealers, with a three-year term effective January 2021.

Carlisle's appointment to Marqeta is timely as the company continues to experience growth and expansion. In his new role, Carlisle will have a significant responsibility in integrating compliance into all aspects of Marqeta's operations. He will assist customers in launching innovative card programs while properly navigating the intricate landscape of laws, regulations, and industry standards in the sector.

Carlisle is the latest member to Marqeta's leadership team, following the appointment of Karna Crawford​ as Chief Marketing Officer in the middle of the year.
