FundingPips Reinstates MetaTrader 5 Access Following Regulatory Move

Proprietary trading firm FundingPips announced on Monday the restoration of MetaTrader 5 (MT5) platform availability for its clientele. This development comes after a period of inaccessibility stemming from changes in MetaQuotes' policies regarding the provision of their trading platforms to prop trading firms through third-party brokerage agreements.

Previously, FundingPips, like numerous other prop trading companies, utilized a third-party agreement with a regulated broker, in their case BlackBull Markets, to offer access to MetaTrader products. This arrangement operated on a "grey label" basis, where clients would register through FundingPips, but the trading platform itself carried BlackBull Markets' branding.

Approximately a year ago, MetaQuotes, the developer of the MT5 platform, ceased permitting brokers to extend this service to proprietary trading firms. This policy shift impacted FundingPips, forcing them to suspend the onboarding of new clients.

Industry observers note that MetaQuotes' decision has spurred prop trading firms to pursue regulatory licenses to directly access their platforms. Several firms have taken steps in this direction. For instance, FTMO has been actively seeking regulatory authorization and recently announced its acquisition of OANDA​, a move anticipated to provide global regulatory coverage upon completion. FundedNext has also secured a license in the Comoros and stated its intent to obtain further regulatory approvals, including the hiring of executives in Cyprus.

FundingPips has similarly obtained a license in the Comoros. Sources familiar with the matter suggest that the primary motivation behind many prop firms acquiring such licenses is to regain access to MetaQuotes' trading platforms. FundingPips' announcement indicates the successful culmination of their efforts in this regard, allowing them to once again offer the popular MT5 platform to their traders.
