Interactive Brokers Extends Trading Hours for U.S. Treasury Bonds

Interactive Brokers, a leading US-based global electronic broker, has announced an extension of trading hours for U.S. Treasury bonds on its platform.
Previously offering 8 hours per day on the platform, customers can now trade U.S. Treasuries for 22 hours per day. The trading session closes daily at 5:00 pm Eastern Time (ET), reopens at 8:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), and continues until 5:00 pm the following day. During Eastern Standard Time (EST), the market operates from 7:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
The decision to extend trading hours aims to meet the needs of Interactive Brokers' global clients. This change allows them to trade U.S. Treasuries during their local trading hours, while remaining responsive to global market news and economic events. By enabling clients to manage their investment portfolios and risks more flexibly and effectively, Interactive Brokers aims to help them achieve greater returns.
Thomas Frank, Executive Vice President of Interactive Brokers, said: "The extension of trading hours for US Treasury bonds represents a significant enhancement to our offerings. It is part of an ongoing effort to expand our bond offering by adding new coverage, products, venues and liquidity. We aim to provide our clients with the most flexible and comprehensive trading environment possible. With clients in over 200 countries and territories, it's essential that we accommodate their needs and provide opportunities to trade on a schedule that suits them best, especially in a market as crucial as that of US Treasuries."
The extension of trading hours comes on the heels of Interactive Brokers' positive financial report for Q1 2024. With net revenue of $1.203 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 13.9%, the company's strong financial strength bolsters its service expansion. Recenlty, Interactive Brokers has enriched its investment options for Japanese customers by introducing CFDs on U.S. stock trading services.
